Core library samples that have been scanned by the NSW Hylogger. The HyLogger system acquires information on rock, ore and alteration minerals in drillcore, chips and pulps that are often difficult or impossible for the human eye to interpret correctly. Reflected light from the samples is broken into hundreds of different wavelengths by several spectrometers, allowing the recognition of unique spectral signatures for each mineral. This technology is also used on cores from petroleum and carbon dioxide (CO2) geosequestration wells to obtain mineralogical data that may complement porosity and permeability studies. X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence instruments are used for rapid characterisation of a wide range of geological materials and for validating HyLogger data. The GSNSW offers a number of HyLogger scanning services to industry and academia. Each service requires a level of investment by the client and offers different periods of confidentiality.

This is the coal subset of the NSW drilling dataset available from Geoscientific Data Warehouse. The drillhole data has been compiled over time from various sources including mineral exploration reports and departmental records. It provides drill collar information for coal drillholes and associated data including classification of drilling purpose, drill type, licencee/driller information, date the hole was drilled, depth of hole drilled and references. This data is part of the New South Wales Geoscientific Data Warehouse (NSW GDW) series.

The petroleum drillholes dataset stores information about conventional petroleum wells within NSW. The dataset has been developed to record summary data on petroleum exploration and development drilling for holes drilled in New South Wales. The dataset contains summary information about each drillhole such as location, total depth, azimuth/dip, wireline logs, core availability and library location and DIGS references. This data is part of the New South Wales Geoscientific Data Warehouse (NSW GDW) series.

When a title expires or is cancelled, suspended or revoked it becomes ‘inactive’/‘historic’/'dead'. At this time it is moved to the historic titles dataset. This dataset is incomplete and contains only titles that have been digitised. Older titles are stored in hardcopy at the Maitland offices of the NSW Government. Access to these documents is by request only. The DIGS document system often contains copies of older plans.
